WFMI

Overview

faitWildland Fire Management Information (WFMI) is a BLM managed suite of modules that help meet the data and information needs of the interagency wildland fire community. WFMI currently consists of the following modules:

Weather (WXx) – weather.nifc.gov

The Weather module (WXx) is a web-based application that provides the ability of Remote Automatic Weather Stations (RAWS) station owners to configure/manage their stations and direct access to the official system of record for NFDRS standard weather data that is transmitted from the more than 2500 Remote Automatic Weather Stations (RAWS) located throughout the U.S.  Key capabilities are:

  • Direct access to near real-time operational RAWS STATION weather observation data
  • Distribution of operational RAWS observation weather data and station metadata (e.g. changes of the station sensors, location, etc.) to clients such as University of Utah’s MESOWEST, University of Nevada’s WRCC/DRI, and U.S. Forest Services WIMS and EGP systems.
  • Ability of RAWS station owners and the NIFC RAWS Depot to build, configure, update, and order RAWS STATION parts

NWCG Unit Identifiers (UnitIDx) – unitid.nifc.gov

The NWCG Unit Identifier module (UnitIDx) serves as the System of Record and official source for Unit Identifiers. The Unit Identifier is a five or six-character code that is used to uniquely identify specific government, federal, state and NWCG approved non-government organizational units. In addition to the code, each Unit Identifier record contains information about the organizational unit such as: Department, Agency, name, etc.

Additional Investments managed:

FireCode – firecode.gov

The FireCode module generates standard fire incident management financial codes for fire incidents for all fire agencies and distributes these firecodes to other applications via the Integrated Reporting of Wildland-Fire Information system (iRWIn) and to both U.S. Forest Service (IBDB) and Department of Interior (FBMS) financial systems.  FireCode allows the wildland fire agencies to track the costs of wildfire suppression more accurately across multiple jurisdictions.  All federal wildland fire suppression agencies (BLM, BIA, FWS, NPS, USFS) utilize the FireCode application to generate the fire code project identifiers.

SAFENET - safenet.nifc.gov

The SAFENET system is a way for front line firefighters and support staff to report unsafe or unhealthy situations and near-misses. It is also a way for fire managers to hear about and correct hazardous conditions, collect, and track important safety data and identify trends that could be developing.

System Status: WFMI is Operational
